minakinewsThe Minaki News is back!  The Local Services Board has accomplished the revival and has just published a November/December issue.

Current LSB members are Barb Mach (chair), Ben Barber, Matt Bruce, Sean Bruce, and Rachel Taylor. Barb has led the work on the new Minaki News.

2016 Minaki Cocktail Party Fundraiser Print E-mail

We are happy to announce that the 2016 Minaki Cocktail Party and Fundraiser is set for:

Sunday July 24th, from 4 to 8 pm at the Minaki Community Hall.

Like last year, the Minaki Cottagers Association will be organizing the event, with proceeds benefitting the Minaki Community Association, the Minaki Foundation, and the Minaki Cottagers Association.  There'll be the usual fabulous food from Denise and Jean Louis.

A historical account of the Minaki School history written by the late Jack Charlesworth (to read the full account, view the PDF file).

Minaki School Section No 1 (1916-69)

The Townsite of Minaki got it's start when the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway was being built across Canada. In 1906 this construction was in full swing and of course the crossing of the Winnipeg River created a natural meeting place. Much Labour was required to blast out the series of rock cuts and fill the valleys with the rock fill. The river also had to be bridged so a small community of construction personnel and their families collected at this point and some of them never left. The river also became a supply route with steamboats plying between Kenora and Minaki

One of the families who came to this emerging village was that of W.G. Muncer whose family is still represented in the populations of Minaki...
